Humanitarian Online Volunteering

Important Note:

For the Spring 2022 Semester regular members must complete 20 total hours (15 of which must be in person) and 5 meeting credits (4 of which must be in person). Post Bacc members must complete 12 total hours (8 of which must be in person) and 3 meeting credits (2 of which must be in person). Make sure to fill out the In-Person Volunteering Waiver under the Forms tab when volunteering in person. These requirements are subject to change. We have provided several opportunities for you to get your hours virtually below. Below the list of virtual opportunities, there is also a list of in-person opportunities. Make sure to also check the calendar for more opportunities from many committees.

Google Form for Volunteering

This Google Form must be submitted within 72 hours of volunteering every time you volunteer for a humanitarian hosted event. Be sure to provide information in the Google Form as well as proof of volunteering (photo, screenshot, certificate). This is our way of giving you credit for your volunteer hours.

Making Hand-Written Letters to Women Newly Diagnosed with Breast Cancer. They have a 2021 Miles of Mail campaign to collect 25,000 letters this year. Specifics about how to make the letters and making an account are on their website.

4 Letters = 1 Humanitarian hour

A free, online platform that connects low-income students in the US with live volunteer tutors. You can help students from anywhere with an internet connection from home. 

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour

Teach your passion for an hour online to the elderly and make meaningful connections.

10 lunch bags = 1 hour

Vello is the innovative, 1:1 tutoring program from United Way that matches tutor teams with local classrooms for guided reading support. Together, students and tutors read e-books using super simple screen sharing and audio.

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour

Transcribe various historical documents to improve readability and searchability.

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour

Record an audiobook chapter/story of a public domain book to be made available for all.

 

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour

Color a premade template to be sent out to Senior Citizens, Out Troops Overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. Instructions to follow and validate your hours are on the website.

6 drawings = 1 humanitarian hour

Send birthday and encouragement cards with handwritten messages which will be sent to group homes and organizations that provide birthday boxes and transition duffle bags for foster youth. For letter guidelines, please check out the website.

4 letters = 1 humanitarian hour

Crafting a handmade card with an uplifting message for a sick or injured child.

The Oakwood Educational Foundation was created to tackle the issue of educational inequality. Connect under-served youth with volunteer tutors.

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour

Volunteers for WWO write letters (as short as one paragraph or as long as four) or create original artwork (digital or drawn) to send to individuals who are struggling with unfortunate circumstances.

 

NOTE: The WWO will respond with a certificate that serves as credit for the volunteer hours

1 hour of activity = 1 humanitarian hour → must follow their community service hours guideline

App that matches sighted volunteers with blind and low-vision individuals who are in need of visual assistance with a wide range of daily tasks, from reading instructions to navigating new surroundings.

Volunteers proofread pages of digitized text in order to prepare e-books for submission to Project Gutenberg, a free ebook library.
