About the event

As members of the Bone Marrow Committee and partners with the Gift of Life organization, we believe every person battling blood cancer deserves a second chance at life — and we are determined to make it happen. We are singularly passionate about engaging the public to help us get everyone involved in curing blood cancer, whether as a donor or a volunteer. It all begins with one remarkable person, one life-changing swab, and one huge win — finding a match and a cure.

We will be tabling at the UNLV Free Speech Zone, in front of the CBC, on March 7th from 9 am to 1 pm in an attempt to register people into the Bone Marrow Registry. Every swab by an AED member amounts to 2 hours of humanitarian hours, and every additional referral equates to 1 hour. There is no cap on the number of referrals allowed, so I suggest taking advantage of this opportunity!

All it takes is a cheek swab to join the registry - you now have a chance to be someone’s hero. Joining is as simple as spending five minutes to complete a cheek swabbing kit and returning it in a prepaid envelope. The cheek swabs will go to a laboratory for tissue typing, and that information will be entered in the international registry. Transplant centers can search the registry to find matching donors for their patients. This process, from why donors are needed to cheek swabbing to transplantation, is explained in this section of our website, and we always welcome your questions. In the future, you may be called as a potential match for a patient. If so, you will be asked to have a blood test.

Visit our table at the UNLV Free Speech Zone, in front of the CBC, on March 7th from 9 am to 1 pm to allow you to swab your cheek and register into the Gift of Life registry! How often can you give a gift that not only helps to save a life now but continues to save lives for years to come?

Swab your cheek, Save a Life!
